I began my dog career journey as a balanced trainer, using aversive/corrective training methods in addition to positive training methods. However, I started noticing subtle, but significant affect these methods had on dogs. I knew there had to be a better way, so I started focusing on using positive training methods. The results were amazing! The dogs regained their confidence, and most importantly, they were trusting their human companions again. Seeing the effect of positive reinforcement on these dogs convinced me to become a force-free trainer.

I taught myself grooming as well, with help from mentors along the way. I realized I was building bonds with these dogs, and once training was over, I rarely saw them again, other than for boarding. These dogs become some of my best furry friends, so I decided to also learn grooming so I could see theses lovely, tail wagging friends more and more.

During my career as a pet care provider, I've had the joy of working with dogs as a doggy daycare kennel tech, head trainer for board and train and private programs, trainer for group classes, and grooming.

Education: I am a Certified Professional Dog Trainer, knowledge assessed, a Fear-Free Certified Groomer Professional, Pet first aid and CPR certified, and Pet Hair and Skin Science certified, and an AKC Canine Good Citizen approved evaluator.

I have had a lifelong passion for animals. As a child we always had cats and dogs, I never knew what life was like without one. In high school we moved to a farm where I had seven horses and became a three time state champion barrel racer. For the last two years of high school I shadowed a veterinarian and left with hands-on vet technician experience. While this experience was wonderful I decided that being a veterinarian wasn’t what I wanted to do.

I chose to go to college and get my undergraduate degree in Business Administration and then on to my masters degree with a concentration in Information Technology. After a stint in the business world I felt like something was missing. While I was deciding the best move to make, I adopted a new puppy and spent the next year training at a fear free facility in Nashville, where I met Bre. We discussed options for the dog world and I decided my missing link was animals.

I started shadowing classes and helping the groom team with baths and instantly knew that grooming was where I wanted to be. Combining my business background with my lifelong love of animals and being able to do it creatively has saved my life. I hope to continue educating myself and hope to one day become a master groomer.
